In this episode, podcaster Tracy Crow, an author, writing coach, and Marine Corps veteran, interviews artist Michelle Bradford about her journey from portraiture to abstract painting. "I had always been in love with the impressionists and post-impressionists, and hadn't honestly paid any attention to abstract art," she says, and shares that after the birth of her second daughter, she returned to painting and found that portraiture suddenly felt stifling. Instead, she says she was feeling obsessed with color, though she couldn't figure out at first how to "lay them down." One day, she says she just splashed paint on a canvas and enjoyed the "organic surprises" and the "exploration of color." As Michelle explains, with abstract "there's no right or wrong...it's a spontaneous expression of the moment, like a live meditation."
